Is GenAI coming for bookkeepers?

London’s bookkeeper jobs are among the most exposed to generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), alongside admin professional and brokers, says a new report from the Greater London Authority.

Author Jeff Dwab-O’Reilly, says: “Most bookkeeping tasks closely overlap with GenAI capabilities, with little variation across tasks.” That means bookkeepers are potentially most at risk of automation as a large share of day-to-day work being potentially affected.

Dwan-O’Reilly stressed that high exposure to GenAI does not signal definitive job losses, nor does low exposure guarantee job or occupational security. He emphasised that roles requiring high-stakes judgements, accountability and client interaction are considered less directly automatable.
