Carphone Warehouse and Laura Ashley announce closures and possible job losses.

Carphone Warehouse

Almost 3,000 Dixons Carphone workers face redundancy after the electrical retailer revealed it is shutting all 531 of its standalone high street mobile phone shops. The company explained it will shut these sites on 3 April and sell through the Currys PC World outlets and online.

Dixons said that the closures were ‘essential’ as its UK mobile phone arm is set for a £90 million loss this year.

Laura Ashley

The administrators have been called into Laura Ashley putting up to 2,700 jobs at risk, after the Covid-19 outbreak has helped to tip the retailer over the edge.

The troubled chain has not been able to secure the £15 million of funding it needed to keep its 150 UK stores open.

PwC has now been appointed to oversea the administration.
