Sir Alec Reed, the founder of Reed Employment has passed away, surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.
Sir Alec was a larger-than-life character, who left school at 16. However, that did not stop him earning three doctorates and becoming a professor three times over. He was knighted in 2011 for services to business and charity.
He famously said: “Without business where would be no charity, and without charity what’s the point of business.”
Sir Alec opened the first Reed Employment office in Hounslow in 1960 with just £75. For the next 65 years he worked tirelessly for the company he loved, always curious and never satisfied, always seeking new ideas.
He was awarded the PQ magazine Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
His vision lives on through Reed’s mission to improve lives through work and through charities he founded.
Rest in peace Alec Reed.
