There is real concern that a fifth of lead finance officers are no longer reporting directly to their council’s CEO, says CIPFA’s Rob Whiteman.

Responding to a LGC survey results, Whiteman was also concerned that there appears to be an unsettling high number of individuals occupying these critical roles who have been in post for between one and three years.

He said that the section 101 Officer occupies a critical position in local government holding the financial reins of the business and ensuring resources are used wisely to secure the best outcomes for communities.
