Are there too many accountants in the world?

Did you know that there is a qualified accountant in the UK and Republic of Ireland for every 186 people? And, if you add PQs into the mix the there are over half a million accountancy members and students in those two islands alone!

The latest FRC’s ‘key facts’ report shows that between them ACCA, AIA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAS, CAI and AIA have 592,470 members worldwide. They also have 597,106 students worldwide.

We are talking over one million accountants and PQs from these seven bosies alone!
