You won’t get smart using a smartphone!

How quickly do you forget something you read on your phone or laptop? Well, you are not alone as new research suggests that you are much more likely to retain information you read in a book.

Researchers from Cologne University found that human brain quickly forgets information gleamed from the internet as it is so readily available. Instead of remembering the ‘facts’ we instead remember how we got there – such as key search terms and website.

It all means that unless the information is hard-earned through hours of study or reading textbooks, our brains just forget what we read.

Study leader Dr Esther Kang said: “Having information at one’s fingertips through electronic devices such as computers and smartphones often leads to reduced attention and diminished recall.”
