Sugar tax a success!

The news that a report on the sugar tax was being stalled hit the UK newspapers recently. The report was about to reveal that the sugar tax had been far more effective than simply asking for manufacturers to take the lead in making process food healthier! And that would apparently embarrass the government – Boris Johnson is sceptical about the effect of ‘sin taxes’.

The report showed that placing a compulsory levy on fizzy drinks reduced sugar ten times faster than a simple request to companies to take sweeteners out of their products.

*The government levy is 24p a litre on high-sugar drinks and 18p for medium sugar ones.
